Carrie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was raised on her parents' farm in Checotah, Oklahoma with her two older sisters, Shanna and Stephanie. In 1996 she was negotiating a contract with Capital records when management changed and negotiations stopped. She graduated from Checotah High School in 2001 and received a bachelor's degree in mass communication magna cum laude from Northeastern State University in 2006. Carrie Underwood was voted Miss NSU runner-up in 2004 at Northeastern State University. She is a member of the Alpha Iota chapter of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
In 2004,Carrie Underwood auditioned for the TV program, "American Idol." and was one of those selected. She won week after week and on May 25,2005, she was crowned the winner of the fourth season of "American Idol."

In 2007 Carrie Underwood went to South Africa for American Idol's charity, "Idol Gives Back," and in the same year participated in the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Tournament. The tournament generates money for research for a number of life-threatening diseases. She is listed on the 2007 and 2008 "Most Beautiful People" by Parade magazine.
